Ciborium veil embroidery and finish
The embroidery places PAX with vine leaves and a bunch of grapes. Together, these elements form a cohesive composition with a clear sacred and Eucharistic character. The fabric gives the piece a solemn, elegant appearance. The lower edge has a subtle decorative gold finish that harmonizes with the gold elements in the embroidery.
Opening and liturgical use
The opening is cut into the upper section and carefully bound. It lets the fabric sit comfortably on a ciborium with a projecting lid finial. The veil drapes properly over the vessel while leaving the decorative finial visible.
It is intended to cover with dignity a liturgical vessel used to store the Blessed Sacrament. Careful workmanship emphasizes respect for the Blessed Sacrament and the dignity of the ciborium used to store consecrated altar bread.
PAX means “peace.” It recalls the peace that comes from Christ and is present in the Church’s liturgy. The design connects this symbolism with a direct reference to the Eucharist. The vine leaves and grapes refer to Eucharistic wine and Christ’s words about the true vine.
In the liturgy, this color represents love, Christ’s Sacrifice, the fire of the Holy Spirit, and martyrdom. It is particularly fitting for celebrations of the Passion of Christ, Pentecost, and commemorations of martyrs.
