Embroidery and liturgical use

The decoration consists of a Marian monogram “M” topped with a crown. The edge has a subtle, wavy embroidered finish. Each piece has a classic rectangular cut. The combination of the fabric and decorative work gives the set an aesthetic, solemn character.

A purificator is one of the basic elements in an altar linen set. It is used during Mass and other Eucharistic celebrations. During the liturgy, it cleans and dries the chalice. After Communion, it dries the chalice during its purification. When Holy Communion is distributed under both kinds, it also wipes the chalice rim.

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal also identifies the purificator as one of the elements prepared together with the chalice and corporal.
